Definition: It’s a ping-pong net that can be extended (stretched) across a table and retracted (rolled back) into a compact housing when not in use.

Mechanism: Usually has two posts (clamps) that attach to the edges of any flat table. A net, typically made of nylon or polyester mesh, rolls out from one side to the other. When you’re done playing, you release it and it rolls back in. 

Compatibility: Designed to work with tables up to a certain thickness — commonly up to ~5 cm (or ~2 inches) 

Maximum Length: Many retractable nets can stretch up to 2 meters (or close to it), making them suitable for a wide variety of table sizes. 

Material: The housing is often made of durable plastic (ABS etc.), and the net is made from strong mesh like nylon or polyester. 

Clamping System: Uses spring-loaded clamps or pressure clamps to grip the edge of the table — gives quick installation and is supposed to avoid damaging surfaces. 

Height: Typical net height of such retractable nets is close to standard table tennis height. For example, the Fox one has a net height of ~14 cm. 

Portability: Since it retracts, it's very portable and easy to store. Great for carrying in a bag, storing in a drawer, or tucking away when not in use.
